Mindfulness and Chronic Physical Illnesses

There is a huge range of research that has established the positive impact Mindfulness meditation can have on the emotional and mental wellbeing of people who have been diagnosed with a chronic physical illness such as cancer, diabetes, chronic pain, fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis.

Mindfulness can help a patient understand emotions that may arise as a result of being diagnosed or coping with their condition. In some cases mindfulness has also been shown to actually impact the physical symptoms of a chronic physical illness such as lowering blood pressure and blood sugar levels which makes coping and self-treatment for a diabetic less stressful and can enhance quality of life.
