A recent report from the Heidelberg University in Germany published in the journal Allergy has suggested that work related stress and the inability to relax after work are associated with an increased risk of asthma.
The study focused on 5000 men and women between the ages of 40 to 65 over a period f 8 years. The study found that those free of asthma at the start of the project, ended with a 40 per cent higher incidence of asthma eight years later if they suffered work relate stress and inability to relax after work.
The signs included demanding schedules, uncomfortable working conditions and long working hours.
Many studies have already demonstrated stress causes the release of chemicals that promote allergies and disrupt the way the body halts inflammation of the airways, in addition to impacting on the bodys immune system.
Work based stress is rising at shocking levels especially as many workers and families awaken to the economic depression that is beginning to become evident through a number of factors, including the start of the mass unemployment wave, falling markets and increasing food prices.
Stress leads to a whole host of psychological and physical illnesses. To make matters worse, most people suffering from stress are provided with a cocktail of highly addictive and toxic psychoactive chemicals to "adjust their moods" instead of dealing with the cause of stress.
Meditation has proved to be amongst the most effective cure for stress, depression and anxiety, despite thousands to research studies proving the efficacy of meditation it is yet to be incorporated in general medicine.
"Mindfulness meditation is an excellent skill to learn, its simple, effective, portable and non-toxic" said Dav Panesar, meditation teacher and researcher in application of meditation in physical and psychological healing process.
