How to Use a Mantram
Once we have selected our own Mantra, the exercise is simply to practice it by repeating it silently (mentally) to oneself, while listening to the repetition as often as you can and over a period of time so it becomes effective.
Using a Mantra can be broken down into three steps
1. Silently repeating a word, sound or phrase
2. Passively disregarding any other thoughts that may intrude. (this can be achieved by listening to the mantra, and when one becomes aware that they are engaged in fantasies of the future or replaying mental scenarios, gently bringing back ones awareness to listening the mantra being repeated)
3. Listening to the internal sound of the mantra
Silently repeating Mantra will rapidly enable you to focus on the sound and effectively interrupt negative or habitual thought patterns at any time or place.
The short-term effects include lowering of oxygen consumption, blood pressure and pulse, while simultaneously decreasing mental tension and anger. Long-term effects include improvement of pain management, anxiety, insomnia and depression.
The simple technique has also demonstrated with increased self-esteem and improvement in academic achievements.
This technique is immediate, inexpensive, portable, invisible and unlike drug-based therapy, it’s non-toxic.
