People who suffer from anxiety often do so in silence, according to new research.
The British Acupuncture Council (BAC) revealed the findings of its study yesterday (October 10th) to coincide with World Mental Health Day.
It found that 66.5 per cent of respondents to its survey said that they “just tried to get on with things” instead of seeking help when experiencing feelings of anxiety for five years or more.
Almost all people feeling stressed or anxious who took part in the study were unaware that acupuncture can in fact be used as a form of stress management.
Contrary to that, it was also revealed that 67.5 per cent of acupuncture practitioners had seen an increase in the number of patients contacting them for help in relation to treatment for anxiety over the last few years – certainly indicating that awareness of its benefits was also on the rise.
In addition to this, over nine in ten patients said they would consider a complementary therapy to treat their condition in addition to medication they had already been prescribed.
