Meditation shown to decrease crime

Just take a moment to consider what is happening today in your streets and the world that you inhabit.

Violent crime is increasing daily, where a few years ago fatal child on child violence was rare, today a day doesn’t go by before we hear of brutal and fatal violence amongst children. Climate change is here and impacting on food harvest, decline of ecosystems, while the politician go about creating this world into a global inferno, populated with wars, the latest being planned before the end of 2008 against Iran by the Israeli, USA and UK.

Perhaps the time has come to wake up to our inherent abilities and power to change not just our immediate life, but our relationships and the world at large.

During the summer of 1993, approximately 4000 practitioners of a sound-based meditation programme, Transcendental Meditation showed a 23% reduction in violent crime as a result of meditation in Washington DC. A 27-member independent Project Review Board of sociologists and criminologists from universities, the police department and government of the District of Columbia, and civic leaders approved this project. Violent crimes included homicide, rape, aggravated assault, and robbery.

Similarly striking results were found in studies conducted in Merseyside UK and even the Lebanon war in the Middle East.

How can meditation reduce crime?

Stress, anxiety and destructive emotions such as anger create a range of effects, within us and around us, these include:-

1. Chemical changes through hormones

2. Biophysical effects such as increased blood pressure

3. Energetic changes, electromagnetic field changes, especially from our heart which envelops our bodies and extends in all directions around us.

4. Neurological changes, such as coherence (orderliness or synchronisation) of our heart and brain waves.

Meditation has been shown to create coherence between our brains and hearts, this field spreads similarly as light radiates from its source.

Simply, to reduce crime we need to reduce stress and anxiety within those most at risk, meditation without fail has been shown again and again to address unproductive stress, anxiety whilst also enabling self-growth, increased self-esteem, compassion, forgiveness enhancing creativity, intelligence and cultivating acceptance and mindfulness.

Not only can you create a healthier psychological and physical well being, but you also have the power to make a positive change in a world that appears to be getting more aggressive and violent moment-by-moment.
