According to a recent study conducted by American ‘More’ magazine, 500 women were surveyed aged between 35 and 60 to help understand the needs and desires of working women . Two-thirds of the women surveyed said that they would rather have more free time to greater salaries with two out of five participants reporting that they would be willing to take a pay cut if it meant they would have more flexibility.
The results reported that 43 percent of the women thought of themselves as less ambitious at the point of the survey than ten years prior. Only 25 percent of the women reported that they were actively working towards a promotion. 73 percent of the women questioned reported that they had no desire to apply for their boss’ job. With almost 2 out of 5 of the participants reporting that stress, responsibility and office politics were the main deterrents to applying for such positions.
It has already been reported in a previous news article that stress is the number one reason for absence at work, it could therefore be argued that if employers worked to reduce stress with measures such as corporate yoga or meditation sessions, not only could employees be more relaxed and subsequently productive but could be in a better frame of mind to enjoy and make the most of the free time they do have.
