Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is one therapy that is used to help people come to terms with the traumatic experience in order to help relieve symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

During a course of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy the trauma victim talks through their experience with a qualified cognitive behaviour therapist gradually ‘exposing’ themselves to the thoughts, emotions and implications of the trauma.

The CBT specifically addresses irrational and distorted thoughts and memories of the traumatic event, substituting them with more appropriate and objective reflections.
