Family therapy is a relatively recent therapy option to addresses the concern that Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can directly impact family members almost as much as the individual exposed to the trauma.
Family therapy is thought to be an effective treatment of PTSD particularly when the individual diagnosed with the anxiety disorder comes from a close family unit.
It is often the case that the family members of someone who has lived through a traumatic experience will not understand the emotional, psychological and physical impact of that event. Family therapy provides a safe environment from which to receive treatment for the symptoms of PTSD while also educating family members about the changes that may arise in the individual as they come to terms with their experience.
Family therapy enhances communication and familial relationships in order that PTSD can be addressed and overcome with the support of loved ones.
