The question on everyone’s mind is, how can a “normal” well adjusted individual with no previous issues or signs of mental illness go on such a killing spree?
Unfortunately, the simply answer is uncontrolled stress lead Derrick Bird to end the lives of so many people.
Details are now emerging that Derrick Bird was fearful of going to prison following a tax investigation before he embarked on the deadly killing spree which left 12 people dead and many other injured, shocked and traumatized.
This tragic case highlights the very real dangers from acute or chronic stress in modern Britain, especially as the recession/ depression impacts and many businesses, families and individuals are severely affected.
The causes of Derrick Birds stress appears to be coming from a Tax investigation that led him to believe he would end up in prison as a result of the investigation. Anyone who has had the misfortune of being under investigation by the Tax , Custom and Excise and VAT inspectors will be all too aware of the incredible stress these investigation place on people.
Stress leads to mental imbalance and manifests as fear, anxiety, worry, anger and loss of compassion and care for others.
“We come across many individuals who feel they are unable to cope as a result of “everyday” stress, meditation has become a real lifeline for them with profound positive results for them and their families. Meditation is a simple practice that is just too important to miss out, especially in these stressful days as this tragic case shows.” said Dav Panesar, teacher and researcher in meditation and transpersonal psychology .
