What is Mental Stress?
Mental stress, also called cognitive stress, refers to the pressure we place on our thinking and decision-making abilities. It often builds up when our minds are overworked or overwhelmed by demands from work, school, or daily life.
Signs of Mental Stress:
- Racing thoughts or difficulty switching off
- Difficulty concentrating or focusing
- Poor memory or forgetfulness
- Feeling overwhelmed or mentally drained
- Constant worry or indecisiveness
Causes of Mental Stress:
- Heavy workloads or unrealistic deadlines
- Academic or study pressure
- Life transitions or major decisions
- Mental exhaustion from multitasking
- Lack of mental rest or stimulation
Managing Mental Stress:
- Break tasks into manageable steps
- Use mindfulness or meditation techniques
- Prioritise sleep and mental downtime
- Limit multitasking and distractions
- Speak to a therapist or mental health professional if needed
